    H220, KSA Atlantis – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/KSA%20Atlantis/205/164/502

By its own description a H22O is semi-submerged, rainy and dark landscape open for exploration and photography. “Never run in the rain with your socks on”

I saw it on the SL loading screen and decided it was worth a visit… It is another SIM that I feel would benefit from some sort of music or tunes while you wander about but it does look good.

The landing area for the SIM is up in the sky and you have th crawl through a pipe to get down to the ground level where the actual SIM itself really is.

I do like the rain effect that is constant in the semi gloom theme as it adds to the semi eerie feeling they I think were trying to go for.

It has various separate items  dotted around the ground level, all under just enough water to paddle through as you walk between them.

As I mentioned above, the only thing that I didn`t like as much was that it was so quiet… Some atmospheric music or effects would have added to the overall theme nicely I feel but overall I did like how it looked and felt as I was walking about in the rain and occasional lightening 🙂

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) — The Worst Disease You’ve Never Heard Of.™

debra of America SL Office, Party City – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Banshee/168/34/57

I was investigating the Destinations list and came across this SIM and it got me thinking….. This is perfect way for charities to reach so many people and the Cancer fundraiser that the AEG held last year is a classic example of the good we can all help to make if we all pull together.

So with that in mind, I thought it was very much deserving of a post on here to help raise the awareness of it and get people involved in helping to raise money for what is really an unheard of disease that does affect so very many people.

Do jump over to their SIM and pick up a t-shirt and wristband or head over to their website and donate to the cause.

    What is debra and EB?

DebRA is dedicated to finding a cure for Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – The Worst Disease You’ve Never Heard Of.™ EB is a rare genetic skin disease causing chronic, painful blistering affecting 1 in every 20,000 live births in the US.

The Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association of America (DebRA), was founded over 30 years ago and is the only national nonprofit organization dedicated to funding research and providing supportive services and programs for those with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) — The Worst Disease You’ve Never Heard Of.™ Visit: www.debra.org

Epidermolysis Bullosa, or EB, is a very rare genetic connective tissue disorder that affects 1 child out of every 20,000 births (that means about 200 children a year are born with EB). EB is actually a group of disorders that share a prominent manifestation of extremely fragile skin that blisters and tears from friction or trauma. Internal organs and bodily systems can also be seriously affected by EB. The list of secondary complications can be long and may require multiple interventions from a range of medical specialists. As of today, there is no cure or treatment. Daily wound care, pain management and protective bandaging are the only options available.

The manifestations of EB, the symptoms the person suffers from, and the overall long term outcome on quality of life run the gamut from mild to devastatingly severe. This is dependent on several factors including the type and subtype of EB and the inheritance pattern (autosomal dominant versus recessive). There are many people who are diagnosed with milder forms of EB, which, while they can be extremely difficult and painful to live with, are not disfiguring or lethal. In these forms of EB blistering of the skin may be limited to the hands and feet which may not result in any scarring or loss of function. In more severe forms there is generalized blistering of the skin as well as injury to many internal organs and bodily systems. These more severe forms of EB result in disfigurement, disability and early death, usually before the age of 30. In fact, some forms of EB are lethal in the first few months of life.

EB is caused by mutations in the DNA code that make up genes. Genes are responsible for making and expressing proteins. EB can result from one genetic mutation in any one of the 18 genes that have been found to cause the disorder. These mutations, or errors in the genetic code, may not allow the affected gene to produce a specific protein, or it may result in the incorrect formation of that protein. Either way, the mutation does not enable the affected protein to work correctly thus resulting in extremely fragile skin, and other manifestations of EB like: anemia, cardiomyopathy, syndactyly (fusion of the fingers and toes), renal insufficiency, dysphagia (difficulty swallowing), malnourishment, cancer, constipation, osteoporosis, muscular dystrophy and pyloric atresia.

There are four types of genetically inherited EB: Simplex, Dystrophic, Junctional and Kindler. These four major types of EB differ phenotypically (what physical manifestations look like) and genotypically (the genetic makeup) as well as by the area of the skin where there is blistering, otherwise known as “the site of ultra-structural disruption or cleavage”. There is also an autoimmune form of the disorder called, EB Acquisita .

Children with EB are known as Butterfly children because their skin is as fragile as the wings of a butterfly.

There are about 30,000 people with EB in the United States.

EB affects both genders and every racial and ethnic background.

    PROGRAMS & SERVICES:

    www.debra.org/programs

    • NEW FAMILY PROGRAM: Provides a comforting support system for newborns and families as they begin to care for a child with EB. Families receive practical information on wound care and issues related to the care of infants with EB, medical supplies, and gifts to comfort and welcome the new baby. A trained coordinator offers one-on-one support to families by phone and/or through in-person educational visits.

    • WOUND CARE CLEARING HOUSE: The WCC distributes wound care supplies to those who cannot afford them. The specialized, non-adherent bandages and other necessary supplies can have a retail cost in excess of $10,000 per month. In many cases, private insurance, Medicaid or Medicare does not cover the entire amount. The Clearinghouse aims to bridge these gaps in coverage, as well as support those without insurance. Last year, over $320,000 worth of supplies were sent directly to those in need.

    • FAMILY CRISIS FUND: provides emergency assistance to alleviate the difficulties of unreimbursed costs of medical supplies, comforting aids or procedures for EB patients.

    • EB NURSE EDUCATOR: Geri Kelly manages over 3000 inquiries annually. She answers medical questions, makes referrals, and directs EB patients to important resources. Call Geri at (866) 332-7276 or email nursegeri@debra.org

    • THE PATIENT CARE CONFERENCE: held every 2-years to connect EB families with the best and brightest minds working on care and cure strategies for EB. Watch videos from the 2012 PCC in Orlando, FL (July 30-August 1) www.debra.org/pcc2012videos

    • DebRA of America has helped fund 30 grants in 9 countries.

    • 89.4 cents of every dollar donated to DebRA of America funds our programs, services and research for a cure.

    Goodnight Photography, Berlengas – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Berlengas/131/78/22

The home of Jeff Goodnight.  You are more than welcome to visit and shoot photos.  If there is anything I can assist you with, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I have long been slightly jealous of Jeff`s photographic quality and ability. He is one of the few great photographers that is also more than happy to help out somebody in aiding another budding photographer to better themselves. I was such a person and with Jeff`s help, I reawakened my love of taking pictures of SL and it`s many wanders now that I have both the pc to do so and, thanks to Jeff`s help, the ability to use it to get the best shots possible of SL.

I will be forever grateful to him for his help in allowing me to once again very much enjoy jumping about and grabbing shots of some of SL’s most beautiful SIMs in nice high quality shots.

So it was no surprise that when I heard he was going to be doing a SIM of his own again, I could not wait to see it and explore it as I knew that if his creative juices flowed with even a small portion of his obvious eye for beauty, then it would be an amazingly lovely thing.

And when it was finished, it was all that and more. Not only had he managed to create a beautiful looking SIM, he had also thought of others in the process. There are pose balls and scenes all over the SIM where you can grab your own snapshots in a beautiful, peaceful setting.

I am once again entirely jealous of what Jeff can do and hope that my pictures do the SIM as much justice as it so truely deserves.

Definitely, definitely go and visit Goodnight Photography and grab your own memories with that somebody special on a wonderfully special and beautiful looking SIM.

    The Ambrosia Entertainment Group

    image

The AEG holds a special place in my heart. Both SL and RL are both what they are thanks to the AEG. I met my wife in both worlds (the ever beautiful DJ Lynn Wylder) on a visit to Rez one glorious evening in December 2010 and I`ve never been away from the clubs since. They are always welcoming and have some amazing DJs playing music for you and many will make you laugh and/or cry with their chat and observations.

The Ambrosia Entertainment Group consists of – Ambrosia (Mainstream & Dance), Rez (Alternative & Dance), Grind (Romantic), Bad (80’s and 90’s) and Cooter’s Country (Country).

With 5 clubs, there is always somewhere in the group to suit your musical tastes, from live mixing DJs at Ambrosia to easy listening and romantic music for you and your special somebody at Grind.

Most of the clubs will hold special events & parties from time to time so when you land, join the club groups to be kept up to date with the latest news and events, or visit their website (link below).

All clubs share a joint VIP group where for $300L, you can LM to the backstage areas of all clubs and save yourself the walk there. for a small amount of linden it is a great way to land almost directly inside the clubs 🙂

I do strongly suggest checking these clubs out if you like and enjoy music and having fun. Whoever is on the mic or concierging at the time will make you feel welcome and if you don`t like the music there, you have 4 other choices to enjoy 😀

    Cavey Charlesworth,
    GridsLife.com

The Ambrosia Entertainment Group is comprised of five entertainment and fashion venues located within the world of Second Life.

Founded in December of 2006 by Phil Kearny, it began with Ambrosia Dance Club, later was joined by Rez Nightclub, then Grind Modern Romance, then Bad, totally rad joined the group with its mixture of 80s and 90s music and finally Club Five completed the mix.

Each club provides a unique, comfortable environment for people to meet, exchange ideas, dance, shop and generally enjoy themselves. Featuring the finest entertainment to be found in the virtual world. The staff at all five venues will ensure your entertainment experience is one you will remember and come back for time and time again.

There are live mixing DJs, Dance DJs, alternative DJs and all manner of other interesting styles of music presentation. Ambrosia and Rez will always have a live DJ playing, while the other 3 clubs alternate between liv e DJs and radio fill ins inbetween them.

Their club rules are simple – Don’t Be Annoying.”

The Garden of Dreams sim is one that we have visited many times before and I thought it was definitely time to go picture things. It is one of my favourite SIMs in SL to visit due to it`s beautiful look and lovely peaceful music which allows you to just relax and enjoy the time. The ethereal feel of the place as the default SIM style lends beautifully to the feel of things amd if you turn on a couple of the Environment Filters it makes the sim look amazing (as you will see on a “before & after” picture below).

There are a number of areas where you can site on the poseballs and just relax, or you can go and select on of the Sky boxes that you can find if you look around for the magic tp points… The boxes can rez a number of different scenes and all are wonderfully private while still enjoying the music of the SIM.

The landing area of the SIM also allows you to buy SIM Surrounds and various other SIM enhancing items and is where I myself got one of the SIM surrounds I have used over the years,

It really is a lovely place to visit and relax in and comes highly recommended by me for one.

    Aspen Fell – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Aspen%20Fell/159/115/50

A great place to relax. Calm Monochromatic Sim for all.

Next up on my tour of  beautiful SL Sims is Aspen Fell. Another of the featured landing spots when you load the viewer, it is a lovely darkened SIM. For the first set of pictures, I purposely left the camera settings as the SIM is and then later, I turned on the Environment settings to show in normal brightness.

The background music is very suitable to everything and I enjoyed panning round the SIM taking pictures while listening to it.

Definitely worth a visit for a peaceful, relaxing time as there are a number of  pose balls around the SIM to use.

Another exploration of a SIM featured on the loading screen for SL, Rico’s Tea House, Cyprus Island, Isle of Flux. It is a very lovely SIM with places to sit and chat with other people, relax on the yachts in the bay or explore the buildings.

The only thing I wasn`t enjoying was the silence from no music stream… Not sure if just a momentary thing but it would have been a much nicer place to relax in if there had been a stream playing… But it is definitely a lovely looking SIM and worth a trip 🙂

Went exploring again and found a lovely recreation of the city of Venice. The textures are lovely and there are gondolas to ride, cafes to enjoy and a wonderful looking recreation of the Rialto Bridge is your landing point for the SIM.

Would definitely recommend taking a look at this SIM is you haven`t been to the real thing and get a taste of things before you jet off to the real Venice -:oD
