Herd of the Wind – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Twilight%20Caye/34/12/2502

    ~*^Herd Of The Wind .^*~
    -A Place to be You-
A public western themed sim celebrating the horse community, RP, nature, animals, and art.

My explorations of SL landing page SIMs continue with an exploration of “Herd of the Wind”.

The sim is apparently 100% mesh scenery and wildlife. This makes for a very nice looking SIM where you can explore and take photos. There are a number of places you can sit/lay/pose and grab some memories either on your own r with friends.

Youl and initially in a skybox and you will need to join the group to use the Teleporter to the main SIM. The group join is free and you are added instantly. You can then use the teleporter down to the main SIM at ground level.

It is a lovely looking SIM and with windlight settings on the right choices, you can grab some amazingly artistic pictures (though most of the below were just on a “Tropicalia and “midday1” sun settings). I think it is the 4th image in the below carousel that is the “Sailor`s Delight” setting and provides a beautiful bright picture of the barn and surrounding land.

    Beachwood Club [B-Club] – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Beachwood/33/39/41

Beachwood Club is the premier venue for true House Music in Second Life. We spin 24/7 with only the best LIVE DJs. We are also featured in the Second Life official guide (Showcase).

Designed and built specifically as an antidote to the usual blue neon, contest board, sploder nightclubs which can be found throughout Second Life, Beachwood Club ushered in a new era of pure, simple, clean venues (yes, we have been copied so we must be doing something right) with professional DJs spinning ONLY live sets for the true House Music enthusiast.

Established in May 2008 by Kitty Umarov and Utrillo Barbosa, both low-key, no-drama people who just wanted to see people enjoy themselves in Second Life and give an opportunity to listen to real DJs. Later on the club was taken over by the General Manager (now Owner) Rex Scorfield and his amazing Management Team, built up to his best, who offer only the finest entertainment to a music loving crowd no matter what time or what day.

So, if you’re having a low day or just in search of one of Second Life’s most fun places to meet people from all over the world, make sure you honor us with your visit anytime.

If you see either owner in the club, feel free to say hello. We hope to see you soon, till then have a nice ride through the amazing world of Second Life!

Beachwood Club, a place to see and be seen…

Noble goes Dutch  “De Vesting” – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Isle%20of%20Noble/149/210/22

Noble Goes Dutch is a sim built for of love of the endless possibilities and creativity in this virtual world. This time, the creators tried to create a contemporary yet authentic Dutch village with typical Dutch elements. Come will find different spots to explore and enjoy, or simply chill and hang out with friends and loved ones. There will be live music events, art and photography exhibits at Begijnhof and the De Grote Markt.

I saw this on the SL destination list and wasn`t able to go straight away. Today I changed that and I am glad that I did.

The SIM has been very nicely and, in my mind, accurately to a dutch country landscape. It did almost instantly remind me of when I was there, so I took that as a good sign -:o).

Thelanding zone is beside the boats and if you go left from there, you will pass the beach area which has a number of places to relax and take in the sun. If you go right from the landing zone, or if you continue past the beach, you will get to the countryside walk round the SIM. This is the part that reminded me of wandering around the Dutch countryside and the windmill is lovely to head towards as you walk round the path.

In the middle of the SIM is a small town and market, though a number of the houses are private so you can`t enter them.

What made it extra nice to be there was the slow radio music stream playing as you wander. It helps make the atmosphere a very lovely one which you could spend a fair amount of time on the SIM, especially on the beach…

Bentham Forest – Haunted Dark Fantasy Forest – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Elven%20Mist/111/204/22

Wander and explore this dark foreboding landscape that is Bentham Forest. Photography quests halloween spooky trees evil scary eerie fae fairy elven drow art fairytale trees fantasy mushrooms spirits horror haunted Forest popular romance

Bentham Forest is a lovely dark SIM that has some lovely looking designs on it. You will need to have ambient sounds and sound on as there is no music playing, but the ambient background is nicely “scary” and lends well to the SIM`s feel.

Very easy to lose your bearing so it is fun to wander round and try and work out where you are….

The SIM is currently on the “Featured” list on the SL loading screen of the SL Viewer so it is a little bit laggy even on high spec systems, but it is definitely worth a visit and a wander 🙂

CF University – Cystic Fibrosis University – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/BOOMER%20ISLAND/17/73/28

Cystic Fibrosis Education Presented By The Boomer Esiason Foundation

Presented by the Boomer Esiason Foundation, this region aims to educate the general public about cystic fibrosis, provides valuable resources to sufferers, and is a fun place to relax and socialize with the CF community.

My SL charities exploring continues with a SIM dedicated to Cystic Fibrosis. The CF University by The Boomer Eliason Foundation is a very lovely SIM. They have a beautiful board walk down the side of a river, a balloon ride tour of the SIM, educational buildings and a gift shop.

One of my favourite spots was the ballroom which I assume they hold functions in from time to time.

I spent a lot of time in the building explaining treatments, symptoms, diagnosis, etc in. Each of the boards has a notecard that explains the various parts of the information on Cystic Fibrosis. The gift shop has a number of items you can buy along with a lot of freebies for you. Off to the side, they also have a sandbox for you to go play in and build to your hearts content.

Please do visit this SIM and give your support to this charity and visit their website for more information amd to donate online… As with most charities, they can always do with your financial support 🙂

    What Is Cystic Fibrosis?

Cystic fibrosis is a fatal genetic disorder that affects more than 30,000 Americans. Although CF is not yet curable, the situation is not hopeless. Every day since the CF gene was discovered in 1989, the pace of CF research has greatly accelerated. Today, 40 percent of the CF population is over the age of 18. And thanks to advances in medicine and technology, these adults are enjoying an improved quality of life.

    Causes

Cystic fibrosis is a genetic disease. That means people inherit it from their parents through genes (or DNA), which also determine a lot of other characteristics, including height, hair color and eye color. Genes, found in the nucleus of all the body’s cells, control cell function by serving as the blueprint for the production of proteins.

    Symptoms

The severity of cystic fibrosis symptoms is different from person to person. New research shows that the severity of CF symptoms is partly based on the types of CF gene mutations, or defects. Scientists have found more than 1,500 different mutations of the CF gene.

    Diagnosis

How can you know for sure if you or your child has cystic fibrosis? If someone in your family has the disease, could you pass it down to your children?

    Treatments

Staying healthy and maintaining optimal lung function requires people with cystic fibrosis to follow a regular treatment routine. The therapies for CF include airway clearance techniques, a variety of medications and good nutrition. If and when a person with CF develops severe lung disease, they may discuss the option of lung transplantation with their CF care team.

    Research

Scientists and researchers are working every day to find a cure for cystic fibrosis and also to develop treatments that greatly improve the quality of life for CF patients. Each day since the cystic fibrosis gene was discovered in 1989, the pace of CF research has greatly accelerated, and scientists continue to find ways to help those who live with the disease.

Exploring Second Life – Amazon River

    Amazon River – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Rio%20Grande/217/73/22

Find one of the most stunning rain forests in Amazon River. expanding across two regions. Bring friends, relax, explore and solve quests to win prizes in this two-region jungle. But most importantly: have a great time!

Tropical Jungle Island Indigenous Inca Aztec Paradise Atoll Rain Forest Tribe  Mama Allpa Nude Beach Swim Fun Rlv Traps Sea Raider Lost Carp Hunt Quest, Île, Indigène, Inca, Aztèque, Le Paradis,  Forêt Tropicale, Tribu, Plage De Nudistes, Pièges Rlv

Amazon River is an Adult category SIM. I didn`t see the bits that are “adult” but they are apparently there going by the above description from the “about land” blurb (first one is from SLs Destination guide). The SIM itself spans 2 regions and it looks like a lot of work has gone into this place.

From an aesthetic point of view, the SIM looks beautiful… Lots of  very lovely trees, waterways and paths to explore along with a lot of patforms. These wooden platforms are probably where all the dodgy bits are done but I was too busy panning to test any of them lol.

I love the high viewing platform on the edge of the SIM and its commanding view of the SIM in general. It also has a couples pose ball set where you can sit and stare out across the ocean in each others arms (as I wandered up while 2 people were doing just that).

You can also spend some time shopping as they have a marketplace on 1 side.

My only issue with the SIM, as with a few other I have visited, is the silence… I am not sure if it is a case that their music stream needs to be prodded but while I was there, and whe I went back to retake a shot a while later, it was silent. If there was a quiet/soothing style track playing, I think it would be a lovely place to visit but I also suspect that if they are pushing visitors towards the adult themes, they may be leaving it silent for voice chat. But I merely speculate…

Definitely worth a visit for the visual aspects and worth exploring through the paths and wooden walkways.

    Scoop Motors SIM

    Scoop Motors – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Scoop%20Motors/36/34/21

I first came across this sim while investigating the debra charity and visiting its satellite office on this sim (to read more about the debra charity and the EB disease, read my other blog article).

Scoop motors is home to the Demonic Blackhearts MC and the Wayward Angels MC and they both have clubhouses on the SIM. And while the whole SIM is open and unrestricted to the public, the clubhouses are offlimits during club meetings. Please respect the clubs and I would personally say that if you are not a member of the club, to not go into the 2 club areas. They are clearly marked and so hard to miss 🙂

The SIM also has a number of stores, and has stores for rent:

We have stores for rent 50 prim @ 200l a wk and 25 prim @ 100l a week, we also have rental units fully furnished and 3 teirs high at 600l a wk with 100 prim.

There is a concert area, demolition derby, grand death auto, demolition ball, paint ball and laser tag (which is sim wide), big game hunting, boomtown, parking garage, zombies, adult relaxation park, child play park, battle tanks, go carts, swimming area, bowling, greedy, pool cards against humanity and club for events.

To me, the biggest draw of this SIM and the thing that will almost certainly have me coming back again and again is the 1,000+ meters of roadway!! This thing goes on for a loooooong way. It travels up into the sky and passes a number of points of interest on the way up, including the 2 MC club areas. At the top of the road are TWO timing tracks for you to race on,they even thought of putting a car/bike parking area next to the start lol. The top area will keep you amused for a long time and it took me almost 15 minutes to ride down to the bottom of the race tracks!!

The pictures really don`t do the size of this road network justice so I do strongly urge you to check it out and take a ride/drive up and away. You can rez your own bike/car/etc and have fun with your friends. Challenge them to a race round 1 of the 2 tracks in the sky, or just hang out and have fun.

    View Flickr Album

This really is a great SIM to keep yourself amused for a while and definitely worth a visit to see.

They are a proud supporter of the debra charity and have one of the satellite offices on SIM for you to donate, buy items for sale to benefit the charity’s fundraising. Epidermolysis Bullosa (the EB of dEBra) is known as “The Worst Disease You’ve Never Heard Of.™” and it needs all the help it can get to raise awareness for those that suffer from it, so head over, boost the charit y and have some fun while you are there.

Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) — The Worst Disease You’ve Never Heard Of.™

I wrote a couple of weeks ago about the debra of America office in SL – /debra-of-america/.

They also have a small satellite office also – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Scoop%20Motors/36/34/21. Please do visit one of the 2 offices and help raise awareness for this very unknown disease.

The SIM is also home to the “Demonic Blackhearts” and “Wayward Angels” Motorcycle Clubs. The SIM is not restricted to just these two clubs, and it has the most amazing roadway heading off up in the sky (1,000 meters long I believe)… It goes on for a loooooong time (see pictures below) and you can rez your own motorcycle (or car) and explore things…

In addition to this, you will find “The Cellar” fashion store which is the fashion store for Cerise Emor, who is also the main SL person for the dEBra charity. Please check this out while you are there or seek out a store near you…

But do first make a stop at the dEBra office and donate some Linden 🙂

    What is debra and EB?

DebRA is dedicated to finding a cure for Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) – The Worst Disease You’ve Never Heard Of.™ EB is a rare genetic skin disease causing chronic, painful blistering affecting 1 in every 20,000 live births in the US.

The Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa Research Association of America (DebRA), was founded over 30 years ago and is the only national nonprofit organization dedicated to funding research and providing supportive services and programs for those with Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB) — The Worst Disease You’ve Never Heard Of.™ Visit: www.debra.org

Epidermolysis Bullosa, or EB, is a very rare genetic connective tissue disorder that affects 1 child out of every 20,000 births (that means about 200 children a year are born with EB). EB is actually a group of disorders that share a prominent manifestation of extremely fragile skin that blisters and tears from friction or trauma. Internal organs and bodily systems can also be seriously affected by EB. The list of secondary complications can be long and may require multiple interventions from a range of medical specialists. As of today, there is no cure or treatment. Daily wound care, pain management and protective bandaging are the only options available.

    Cooter’s Country – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Florida/45/191/24

The Ambrosia Entertainment Group expanded its musical domination of SL with a new club in its mighty arsenal with its FIFTH club – a new country music club – Cooter’s Country!

On the same SIM as its Bad! Totally Rad club, Cooter’s Country is now open for business with live DJs playing regularly and a great look and feel to it.

GridSLife was at the grand opening of the club last night (05/24/2014) and had a blast with the country tunes and danced the event away on the line dancing pads.

If you like country, get yourself down to Cooter’s Country and check it out.  And check out http://www.ambrosiadanceclub.com/ for the calendar of who is on and when at the club (when there are more regular Djs, currently it is still listing Club Five which is the former 5th club in the group).

    American Cancer Society – http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/American%20Cancer%20Society/128/154/22

Home to the American Cancer Society in SL.  Monthly cancer awareness events & information, self interactive info 24/7, support groups & programs. ACS, cancer, charity, RFL, Relay For Life, survivors, fundraising, research,, Making Strides, breast cancer

Cancer is something that is very close to so many of us these days. It is directly connected to me personally through my Mother, Father and Aunt all having had a variation of it over the years. Thankfully 2 out of 3 survived the treatment but my aunt was not so lucky.

The American Cancer Society offers hope to sufferers of this often fatal disease, the ACS in Second Life offers education/awareness programs and aims to unite survivors and caregivers. Residents can also visit Anatomica, which examines the key player in the body’s immune system: the white blood cell.

The ACS needs public help to continue fighting this disease and to help look after those both going through treatment, those who have survived treatment and to the families of those unlucky enough to lose that fight.

The ACS in SL provides a very beautiful SIM where you can find out more about what the ACS does, donate to the cause and also visit a remembrance garden to those who have lost the fight. You can add to this wall by request and give yourself somewhere in SL that everybody can go to and pay their respects with flowers that will also benefit the ACS as they will receive the linden cost of the flowers.

Do please visit this sim and donate to the charity in any way you can do. Together we can fight this and together we can win that fight eventually.
